The first production version look of Maruti Ignis was unveiled at Auto Expo in February 2016. Maruti Suzuki Ignis is confirmed to be launched in India on 13th January, 2017. It can be precisely seen as a compact crossover to be placed just below Maruti Vitara Brezza. It will be available at Maruti’s upscale dealerships – Nexa. Priced between INR 5-7 lakhs, Ignis will pose as a rival to Mahindra KUV100 and Hyundai Grand i10. Ignis was up for end 2016 launch but it got delayed due to excess demand for models like Maruti Vitara Brezza and Baleno. Maruti expects its entry level Nexa product to be a hit, but it would be interesting to see how the company will cope up with the production demand next year. Maxabout is of an opinion that this product carries the class and brand value of Maruti but will have a lot to prove as it will be placed in a segment overcrowded by hatchbacks from the best companies.
The hatchback will be available in both diesel and petrol variants. The diesel variant will come with a 1248cc engine which produces a maximum power of 74 BHP @ 4000 rpm and torque of 190 Nm @ 2000 rpm. The petrol variant will come with a 1197 cc engine which has a maximum power of 83.1 BHP @ 6200 rpm and a torque of 115 Nm @ 4000 rpm. Maruti Ignis comes with a boot space of 258 litres.
Being placed as a Nexa product, expect Ignis to be packed with premium scale features such as stylized cabin, high-end infotainment panel and a new instrument cluster. Expect LED daylight running headlamps, Apple Play and Android Auto support also in the upcoming Ignis.
