Toyota India recently announced that they have sold over one lakh units for its famous Fortuner SUV in India. The first milestone was achieved when the car entered its second generation for India and introduced Lexus inspired design to the fans. Toyota Motors received more than 6000 booking in first few weeks for the new Fortuner while they were extremely delighted to have more than 1 lakh happy customers in the Fortuner family. The car helped them shape the premium edge of the brand and could possibly be called the best thing a customer could buy from their dealership this year.
They even delivered around 2000 units last month. Maxabout believes that the old generation had started showing its age as it was loosing the charm that modern SUV’s offered in their interior and exterior design. The introduction of 2016 model made it clear that Toyota had no intentions of staying behind, offering the best in class performance and design in its class with the new version. The new car features a petrol engine for the first time on a Fortuner in India. The 2.7 liter, 4-cylinder petrol engine is good for 166 PS of maximum power and 245 Nm of torque. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The most exciting engine on offer is the new 2.8 liter, 4-cylinder diesel unit that produces 177 PS of maximum power and 450 Nm of torque. It is the same engine that was used in the recently launched Innova Crysta. The upgraded tune on the Fortuner provides it with that extra torque while its 4WD option helps in adding more traction and utility of the SUV. It claims a massive 225 mm of ground clearance and uses a huge 80 liter fuel tank. If everything is kept under control, the car would easily drive 700 kilometers in a single full tank. The gearbox option on the car includes a 6-speed manual and 6-speed AT unit.
Prices for the new Fortuner starts at INR 25.92 lakh while the top spec model costs INR 31,12,000. The car is offered with 17 inch wheels while the top variant offers 7 airbags, hill hold control, electronic stability program and many other features for enhanced safety. The next generation touchscreen infotainment with navigation looks excellent within the leather wrapped dashboard. It comes with automatic climate control, projector headlights and every luxury enhancing feature found in the rivals around its price segment. It would soon become the most preferred utility vehicle among all Indian SUV’s from its class.
